NEXTDC Opens Adelaide’s First Tier IV Data Centre, A1

NEXTDC has launched A1, Adelaide’s first Tier IV data centre, advancing digital transformation for government and businesses in South Australia.

Located within Adelaide’s city grid, A1 enhances the region’s technological infrastructure and supports industries such as government, defence, space, health, mining, and resources.

 

Key Features and Capabilities

  • Capacity: A1 targets 5MW capacity with nearly 3,000 square metres of IT space, hosting up to 1,470 racks. 
  • Certifications: The facility is AI-certified, ensuring 100% uptime and secure, low-latency access to over 750 global cloud and digital service providers.
  • Advanced Design: With high-density power, liquid cooling, and diverse connectivity options, A1 is vital for sectors like aerospace and mining.

Strategic Impact

Craig Scroggie, CEO of NEXTDC, explained that A1 prepares South Australia for the fourth industrial revolution, driven by AI. The data centre will attract global tech companies and investors.

South Australian Treasurer Stephen Mullighan added that the centre strengthens digital resilience and aligns with the state’s Digital Strategy, supporting economic growth and innovation.

Chris Wood, Executive Director at Invest SA, noted that A1 expands the state’s digital infrastructure, creating jobs and making South Australia a more competitive economy.

Partnerships and Collaborations

NEXTDC has partnered with Vocus to enhance fibre network capabilities, connecting Adelaide with Melbourne, Perth, and Darwin. Ellie Sweeney, CEO of Vocus, emphasised the importance of robust digital infrastructure for business success. 

A1 also includes partnerships with New Era Technology, Aussie Broadband, GSL Networks, Sygnite, Unibeam, and NetVault. Brian Maher, CEO of Aussie Broadband, praised A1’s role in expanding Adelaide’s fibre and network footprints.
